PRIMER 1 : Unlocking The Fibonacci Cryptex

 INTRODUCTION

Primer 1 started out as a group project for us to work together and understanding the process of    architectural design through drawings and interpretation through abstraction. This process was based   on the Fibonacci Sequence and is developed to help us grapple, engage and understand the tectonics    of architecture and its done by exposing us to the relationship of lines , planes and volumes to    express concepts , ideas and forms.  The project ended by allowing us to understand the impact of    our tectonics of architecture in space better as well as understanding how the control of tectonics has    allowed for unique shadow and light play that cast into the space and create unique moments in the    space.

 TASK 1

In a group , we had to dismantle various electronic items into 34 different parts and lay them out in    an orderly fashion which allows us to classify the objects more easily. After this we had    to reassemble the object into a new object based on proportions , contrast and density etc.

 TASK 2

Pictures of our model were printed out and traced into butter paper in a random order such that    there is a certain composition and hierachy behind our final drawings.

 TASK 3

From the drawing , a certain area of 21cm x 21cm is chosen and pulled out to be deeply studied where    a conceptual framework and design driver is formed to create the cryptex design. I used the strategy    of interweaving , complexity and a systemetic matrix form as my design strategy and it had to be    crafted out into a 21cm x 21cm x 21cm model made up by 13 lines , 8 planes and 5 volumes. Once the    design is comfirmed , a sketchup model is also being made to illustrate the final model better.

 FINAL MODEL - interweaving matrix

Interweaving sections starts as unorganised intersections at first and are interconnected to show a    well organised structure , the Matrix. Different forms of interweaving are implied by having volumes    , lines and planes weaving through in and out of each other which ends as a stable solid corner at all    sides of the cube. The unstable intersections and connections inside are being implied as a confusion    and complex system such as an organism and this leads out to a smooth clear ending which proves    that when there is complexity , there will be simplicity at the end too. Various volumes and planes are    transparent as it is often the medium which is being weaved through or to show intersection by the    opaque objects while opaque object emphasizes the solidity in this structure and movement as well.

 TASK 4

Once the final model is completed , an outer cube to hold the cryptex is being made. 2 sides of the    cube have geometrical openings that are in relation to the cryptex itself and from there light is able    to penetrate the model which creates different forms of shadow play inside the box.

 PRESENTATION BOARD

 CONCLUSION

Through this primer 1 project , I have understand better on what is architecture language all about    through my exploration of lines , planes and volumes and also understand its all about the process as    it is all related and good process creates good results in architecture. I also get to experience many    forms of shadow play better through my creations and this has allowed me to connect with it and    able to craft out better experience in the future.
